Holi is a holiday which essentially celebrates spring, colors and new beginnings. It's a holiday celebrated in North India, but not in the south.
In the days leading up to Holi, the markets of Kolkata were filled with vendors selling colored powders and spray guns. On the morning of the holiday, the streets were full of people (mostly kids and young men) throwing the colored powders on each others and passers-by. As a pedestrian, you hoped you wouldn't get sprayed by someone using water-based colors, since they stain hair and clothes!
We spent the day with Asmita, her husband and friends.
